Press Club-Mumbai condemns attack on Arunachal journalist

The Press Club, Mumbai on Monday condemned in strongest words the attack on Arunachal Pradesh journalist Tongam Rina of the Arunachal Times – who was critically injured with a spray of gunshots.
Rina, 34, is the Associate Editor of Arunachal Times, a popular daily and the first English newspaper of the state – and the President of Arunachal Press Club.
The Press Club, Mumbai stands by her side and that of her family and the media fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh after this incident.
We in Mumbai and Maharashtra has been on the receiving end of those who had scant respect for democracy and rule of law.
We in our state and across the country have been demanding amendments in the existing laws so that attack on media persons and media houses, be compulsorily treated as non- bailable and cognizable.
We have made representations to the Centre and Maharashtra Government and had also approached the Press Council of India in this regard.
